5th Year Funding
Terry Scholars may apply for funding of additional semesters of study (up to a maximum of ten stipends of total funding). Funding of this additional period of study (“5th Year Funding”) is not automatic and depends on a number of factors including the nature of the student’s academic program and the diligence with which the student has pursued that course of study. The following guidance may be helpful to a student applying for this supplemental funding:
- Additional funding from the Terry program is available only to students whose university-recognized degree plans require more than the usual 8 semesters of study or require in excess of 130 credit hours. In general, the additional Terry stipends are available only for undergraduate degrees and do not include graduate degree programs. However, programs like the professional program in accounting, where a student concurrently earns both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in accounting, qualify for 5th Year Funding. Similarly, programs like pharmacy where the entry level degree is a doctorate or advanced degree qualify for 5th Year Funding. Programs that result in two undergraduate degrees, like dual major programs, do not qualify for 5th Year Funding.
- 5th Year Funding is available only to students with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 as of the end of their 7th semester of funding.
- Students may apply for 5th Year Funding after the end of their 7th semester of funding by sending a letter to the Foundation requesting 5th Year Funding and describing the student’s major and degree plans in detail. Students applying for 5th Year Funding will be required to meet with the on-campus Terry program coordinator as part of the application process. The applications for 5th Year Funding will be considered by the Foundation after grades are received from the 7th semester and the student will be notified of the Foundation’s decision. 5th Year Funding is discretionary and applications will be evaluated on a case by case basis. The Foundation’s decision on these applications is final.
Students receiving 5th Year Funding will be considered Terry Scholars for all purposes and must attend mandatory functions and comply with the Foundations rules and procedures during the period they receive 5th Year Funding.
